…As I matured, I recognized the profound impact of my childhood experiences. It seemed that my mistakes were magnified while my accomplishments were minimized. This imbalance fostered a belief that I was inadequate and incapable of achieving significant success. Consequently, my confidence dwindled, and I became hesitant to take risks.
However, it is important to emphasize that my parents’ approach, while sometimes challenging, instilled in me a strong sense of discipline and a determination to achieve success through ethical
and legal means.
My perspective shifted when I encountered mentors, Dr. Sam Adeyemi and Dr. Nike Adeyemi.
Their influence sparked a realization that I was hindering my own potential.
This prompted a thorough self-assessment where I examined my;
1. Social Circle: I recognized that my companions often lacked self-belief, which
inadvertently affected my own confidence.
2. Talents: I identified my strengths, particularly in helping others and writing, and explored how to utilize them effectively.
3. Purpose: I clarified my life goals, envisioning a significant impact on both family life and organizational productivity on a global scale.
4. Growth Mindset: I embraced the importance of continuous learning and development for personal and intellectual growth. These insights, combined with the discipline instilled by my parents, fueled my journey to become the person I am today. I share my story to inspire others who might be facing similar
challenges. Taking that first step towards self-improvement can reignite your motivation and set you on the path to becoming your best self.
Parents or guardians are arguably the most influential figures in a child’s life, especially during the formative teenage years. They serve as the primary architects of a child’s moral development, laying the foundation for their understanding of right and wrong, good and bad, and acceptable
versus unacceptable behavior. Grusec and Davidov (2010) emphasize parents’ critical role in shaping their children’s values, beliefs, and attitudes.
In the next episode,
We would examine the channel of influence that parents can use to instill values in their children.
Stay tuned.
