This is the guide for the ethical dilemmas that actually matter.
Not textbook cases. Real dilemmas. The ones that cost you something.
Here’s the framework I use to navigate them.
The Ethical Decision-Making Framework
Step 1: Name The Dilemma
What choice is being presented? What values are in conflict?
Step 2: Acknowledge The Cost
What will it cost you to choose ethics? Profit? Time? Convenience? Be honest about the cost.
Step 3: Think Long-Term
What does the easy choice cost you in five years? What does the hard choice give you in five years?
Step 4: Consider Your People
How will each choice affect the people who depend on you?
Step 5: Decide Based On Your Values
Not based on profit. Not based on convenience. Based on who you want to be.
Step 6: Be Transparent
Tell people why you made the choice you made. Explain your thinking. This builds trust.
