Leadership is a sacred trust. But trust without accountability is fragile.
Throughout history, nations have suffered when leaders were allowed to act without checks. Monarchies that collapsed under corruption, democracies weakened by unchecked greed, and organisations destroyed by the arrogance of power all share one thing in common: the absence of accountability.
Accountability is the immune system of leadership. Without it, corruption spreads quietly until it consumes the body of the nation. With it, leaders are kept healthy, humble, and aligned with the values they claim to embody.
Standards for leaders must be higher, not lower. Citizens expect their leaders to model the integrity, responsibility, and fairness that hold nations together. When leaders fail, accountability mechanisms, from parliaments to courts, from citizens to the press, must be strong enough to call them back.
But accountability is not just a political issue. It begins in homes. Families that teach responsibility raise citizens who demand accountability. Families that tolerate dishonesty raise citizens who accept corruption.
If we desire nations that thrive, we must insist on accountability at every level of leadership. It is not optional. It is the lifeline of trust.
